Be one of our first SEIT teachers
We're building a team of NYS-certified special education teachers to serve preschoolers across New York City, starting in Brooklyn.
Tell us about yourselfA founding role
Join early and help shape how a new SEIT program works, from documentation to how we support classroom teachers.
Brooklyn-based, citywide
Our office is at 18 Spencer Street in Brooklyn. We're planning around where NYC needs SEIT most, starting with Brooklyn.
Bilingual teachers wanted
NYC lists Spanish, Russian and Yiddish SEIT need in Brooklyn. If you hold a bilingual extension, we especially want to hear from you.
Part of a family of agencies
Guiding Star is a sister company of Star EIP and Climbing Star, so you're joining an established early-childhood team, not a startup alone.
Who we're looking for
- New York State certification in special education. Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2) is the usual credential for preschool.
- A bilingual extension if you'll serve children in another language. We especially welcome Spanish, Russian and Yiddish.
- Experience with young children, and comfort working inside someone else's classroom.
- Ability to clear NYC Public Schools personnel clearance (PETS) and the State Central Register check.
Honest about timing
Guiding Star has applied to NYSED for approval to provide SEIT services, and approval is pending. We're talking with teachers now so we're ready when it's granted. Start dates, caseloads and schedules depend on that approval. We'll be upfront about where things stand in every conversation.
Tell us about yourself
Two minutes, no résumé needed yet. We'll ask for it when we follow up.
