For CPSE administrators
Building SEIT capacity where CPSE needs it
We're assembling a team of NYS-certified special education teachers around the DOE's published need, so that once NYSED approves our program, CPSE offices have another reliable agency to call.
Guiding Star has applied to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for approval to provide Special Education Itinerant Services (SEIS). Approval is pending, and we are not yet providing services.
What CPSE can expect
Our commitments
CPSE offices assign SEIT to agencies that can staff a case, start on time and keep communication clear. That's what we're building for.
Certified teachers only
Every Guiding Star SEIT will be a NYS-certified special education teacher, cleared through NYC Public Schools personnel clearance (PETS) and the State Central Register before working with a child.
Language capacity where it's needed
We're recruiting around DOE's published need: Spanish, Russian and Yiddish in Brooklyn, plus English.
We only accept what we can staff
If we can't place a qualified teacher at the child's setting, we'll say so right away, so the child isn't left waiting.
Clear, quick communication
A named coordinator, a direct line, and straight answers on staffing status, start dates and documentation.
On-time documentation
Session notes, progress reports and annual review materials, complete and on schedule.
Experienced with the age-3 transition
Guiding Star's leadership also runs Star EIP, an NYC Early Intervention agency, so we know the EI-to-CPSE handoff well.
Built around regional need
Starting with Brooklyn
NYC Public Schools publishes where new SEIS capacity is needed. We're hiring to match it, starting in Brooklyn from our office at 18 Spencer Street.

For preschool programs and EI teams
How SEIT works in a classroom
For 3-K, Pre-K, Head Start and child care directors, and Early Intervention service coordinators.
The SEIT works inside the program
Visits follow the child's IEP and fit the classroom routine, one-on-one or in a small group.
Classroom teachers get a partner
SEIT can include consultation with the classroom teacher on strategies for the rest of the day.
Ratios stay the program's
Under NYC guidance, a SEIT is not part of classroom staffing and doesn't count toward ratios.
